does not last
Non-leather brands may incorporate the word "Leather" to describe their shoe material such as (Polyurethane) PU Leather to give the impression it is comparable to real leather.
It even mimics the looks of real leather but what cannot be mimicked is its durability and comfort which is vastly different. They do not last and will peel quickly due to our humid climate.
Fake PU Leather also has a very noticeable artificial feel against the skin (a bit sticky almost), but real leather feels natural, smooth and breathable. The feel gets even better after seasoning. PU shoes never season, they only deteriorate as the man-man fibers slowly disintegrate.
There is a reason why Luxury Fashion Houses only use Real Leather for their handbags and shoes.
No matter how much a brand may market or dress up their shoes, PU shoes are PU shoes, they are very cheaply made. The cost difference to make a pair of PU and Real Leather shoes is huge, quality real leather can sometimes be 5-10 times higher than PU shoes.
Think you are saving money on cheap PU shoes? Think again.
You may think you are saving some money by spending less on a pair of cheap PU shoes, but that's not true. A pair of PU shoes may look marvelous when its brand new, but compare the condition of the PU shoe vs a Real Leather shoe in a few weeks or 1-3 months down the road, and you see the big difference.
The PU shoes does not maintain its initial pristine condition but has become distinctly worse, but real leather shoes can still look brand new and in fact has become better as the real leather seasons, you will feel for eg: the straps (sliders) become so soft and have a wonderful natural feel against your skin.
With our direct online strategy, our shoes actually retails slightly more than PU shoes, but are leaps and bounds better in quality and lastingness.
The market is inundated with cheaply made PU footwear that encourages customers to throw away their shoes quickly after just a few wears which in turn destroys our environment. At Emelyn, we wish for customers to cherish their shoes and experience true comfort.
An example of PU Shoes peeling after being worn. Common areas are at the back where your weight is on and at the edges.
Areas with constant skin friction like at the straps may also peel.
Where the ball of your feet presses on is another common peeling area for heels. Kicking into objects or stairs while walking can result in peeling. The peeling problem is further exacerbated when PU heels come into contact with water. Water is very unkind to PU and causes it to disintegrate much faster.
PU Shoes have a very limited lifespan and barely last. Every time you keep them in the cupboard and not wear them for long stretches, you are eating into the shoes' already limited time. By the time you wear them again, you will notice the peeling speed up incredibly. For heels, if you are not careful, a single accidental knock and a whole chunk of skin may come out.

At Emelyn, every pair of shoes is supposed to look elegant and posh on your feet, completing your entire outfit. Shoes that are peeling are prominent and not only makes your shoes look cheap but destroys the beautiful outfit you had put together.
Full-grain cow leather is used on all our shoes’ upper and soft Lamb leather on the inner lining and insole, guaranteeing maximum comfort and durability. Full-grain leather is widely accepted as the highest quality real leather. Some leather brands may use PU leather for the lining or insoles to reduce cost, but this can compromise durability and comfort.
